Job Title: Engineer in Charge
Location: Filton, Bristol
Salary: £43,000 - £47,000 DOE
Job Role;
To manage Programme Engineering tasks to meet programme and business objectives.
Key Customer interface for the programme.
Manages the engineering project team and interfaces with the business units.
Integration at overall program level of planning and scheduling data, as required, from Product Integrators at individual package level.
Establishing overall program priorities for design engineering task.
Resolution, in conjunction with functional heads, of overall resourcing conflicts between packages.
Overall design NRC planning, tracking, and control.
Continued business programme support through product service
Link to Operations for manufacturing philosophy, design for cost agreements, etc.
Change control at Customer level.
Management of project technical content.
Identification of work packages suitable for off-load to external Suppliers.
To identify and implement Lean initiatives and to encourage a culture of continuous improvement.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications;
From an engineering discipline within an aerospace environment
Proven track record as a leader of an engineering team
Experience in multi-discipline engineering activities
Management of complex projects.
Project management, planning and organising skills based on recognised management methods.
Strong business and commercial acumen.
Solid approach/understanding to the delivery and tracking of engineering tasks.
Able to define challenging objectives and achieve them.
Relationship building at all levels up to and including senior management level.
Vision and purpose to support organisational change.
Ability to mentor and coach engineers in the delivery of their specific task
Personal Specification;
Able to influence, and where necessary challenge, stakeholders at all levels within the business.
Likely to be able to be eligible for approval level 4 signatory.
Able to work with cross functional teams that will typically include (in addition to the design engineering team) operations, manufacturing engineering, commercial. procurement, quality and suppliers
Excellent written, oral, presentation and facilitation skills
Must have the ability to rationalise, assess and evaluate information that may not always be clear
Has good judgement in considering when escalation is appropriate.
Strong minded and committed, focussed on delivery, must be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
Numerate and articulate
Ability to present data and reports to facilitate the decision making process at all levels of the business
Has the ability to work successfully within a matrix managed business, able to influence without legitimate authority
Ability to work as key a part of a team
Resourceful, flexible and adaptable.
Prepared to work on the complete range of GKN Aerospace programmes, both civil and military
Able to travel as required by the position including internationally.
