Job Description

Would you be interested in working on a Navigation Products Development group as a hands-on Firmware engineer, developing a range of state of the art space sector products and technologies across a variety of domains and technologies?

Are you an experienced Firmware Engineer, that is highly technical and hands-on capable engineer with a history of delivering technical solutions. You will design and develop solutions for projects across predominantly GNSS based firmware and associated embedded technologies. Your technical background and experience will ensure you can offer support and guidance to team members as required, as well as being able to support and assist peer firmware developers at code level and conduct in depth code reviews.

This role offers challenges across a wide variety of projects and technologies, including the opportunity to explore state of the art GNSS receiver technologies, cryptographic system implementations as well as Satellite communication systems, real time Digital Signal Processing and embedded System on Chip technologies.

The successful candidate, in addition to having a proven FPGA development experience you must also have proven technical capability to tackle new and difficult technical problems. This is a product development position so would suit an engineer with a commercial or SME background.

Key Responsibilities
•Taking ownership of personal work, delivering on time, on cost and on quality under the direction of the Engineering Manager/team lead.
•Working within a multidisciplinary team of software/systems/embedded software & firmware engineers as well as GNSS and Crypto domain experts
•Thorough technical understanding of VHDL and FPGA and SoC design, from initial hardware design capture through to system maintenance & updates.
•Capable of understanding and contributing to the technical solution from design through code level to test and verification.
•Working closely with development Project Managers and business managers to produce accurate delivery estimates and manage the transition from analysis through to design and delivery
•Provide regular and effective progress updates to and work closely with team leads to ensure the management of any delivery risks or issues
•Participate in reviews and meetings and provide updates on project progress
•Take responsibility for ensuring that risks and issues are identified and escalated to the team lead/Engineering manager and to deliver on time and to the required quality standards
•Contributing to post implementation reviews helping to demonstrate success or otherwise of projects
•Contribution to the development and management of allocated departmental processes
•Undertake small analysis projects in the form of consultancy and or prototyping
•Work on a wide range of projects involving the implementation of new and existing systems, solutions and processes

Extensive experience of the Xilinx workflows and FPGA modelling tools.
Implementation of VHDL modules using Simulink
Implementation of VHDL modules using the AXI interface to embedded processors
Experience of System on Chip (SoC) design targeting FPGA's or ASIC's
