Rolls-Royce has announced the launch of the Pearl engine family which is designed for business aviation. The Pearl will go into service as the sole engine for Bombardier’s Global 5500 and Global 6500 business jets.

By combining innovative technologies from the company’s Advances2 demonstrator programme with proven features from the BR700, the Pearl 15 will deliver up to 15,125lb of thrust (ISA +15) due to impressive engine core efficiency.  Improvements to the noise profile will see the engine manage to be a full two decibels quieter even when generating 9% more thrust when taking-off than the BR700.

Operators will also benefit from a 7% improvement in specific fuel consumption and world-leading emissions performance, including best in class NOx emissions, even when reaching speeds approaching Mach 0.90.   Obviously Bombardier were suitably impressed.
