Job Description

Our client is seeking to employ an experienced and motivated AIT Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) Support Engineer for a position at their facility based in Harwell, UK. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and rapidly growing company seeking to make a positive contribution to the growing problem of orbital debris that endangers mankind’s continued use of space as an asset. This role will allow the right candidate to shape AIT solutions for our missions and contribute the growth of the AIT team. Primary focus will be the ELSA-M In-Orbit Demonstration mission and opportunities exit to develop solutions to multi-spacecraft manufacture.

The AIT EGSE Support Engineer will be responsible for supporting the commissioning of the EGSE for spacecraft level testing. They will also be involved in spacecraft ground test operations.

Whilst the candidate will primarily work in the UK, they will interact extensively with a larger team in the client’s Japan office and may expect to be required to travel to Tokyo as needed in support of the client’s projects and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Commissioning of an EGSE.
  • EGSE Specification and Design.
  • Maintenance and calibration of EGSE test racks:
    • Radio Frequency (RF)
    • Power
    • Telemetry & Telecommand (TMTC)
    • Central Checkout System (CCS)
  • Spacecraft level operations and testing.
  • EGSE TMTC database maintenance.
  • Preparing and running sub-system and spacecraft level verification and testing.
  • Generation of EGSE documentation (user manuals, test procedures, configuration management reports, maintenance).
  • Investigation and resolution of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) relating to EGSE.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of running EGSEs at a spacecraft level.
  • Experience with EGSE integration, commissioning, and maintenance at a spacecraft level.
  • Strong experience with RF, Power and TMTC test racks.
  • Strong experience in Terma’s CCS5/TSC (creating test scripts and operating a spacecraft).
  • Strong experience with interfaces such as SpaceWire, CanBus, RS422.
  • Knowledge of EDEN protocol.
  • Knowledge and experience of spacecraft databases, TMTC
  • Working knowledge of writing Tcl scripts and test sequences, Python
  • Be eligible and registered to work within the UK and/or Europe.

Desirable skills

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in relevant engineering or science discipline.
  • Experience in defining EGSE requirements and procurement.
  • Experience with spacecraft level RF testing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ideally, experience interacting with international teams.
  • Design skills and knowledge for the development of test infrastructure.
  • Well organized, flexible working approach, ability to adapt to change.
  • Experience with scripting languages and automated testing tools (C, Python, Tcl)
  • Experience of databases (MySQL, SCOS 2000 database)
