Lead Stress Engineer

Job Description

Reporting to the Operations Manager, we require a Stress Team Lead to be part of their experienced engineering team based at our Bristol site. The role is broad in scope, covering everything from scoping fixed price tasks to supporting internal operations and customer operations.

The projects this position supports covers mostly wing structures.

The successful candidate will be suitably experienced and be able to provide evidence of previous team leadership.

Responsibilities include:

  • Management of a team of stress engineers
  • Supporting the project management team to build WBS’s and project plans for fixed price tasks, this will cover static, F&DT and FEM analysis
  • Customer liaison to understand their requirements and respond promptly with fixed price proposals
  • Highlighting technical and commercial risks/assumptions in scoping fixed price tasks
  • Providing weekly internal and external highlight reports
  • Support project management team with status updates on individual work packages
  • Liaising with KDC and customer design/systems teams to ensure integration between stress, design, and systems.
  • Responsible for work package timely delivery and quality
  • Where required perform analysis and reporting
  • Mentoring and management of Stress team
  • Resource Management
  • Supporting internal operations and customer operations

Key experiences and skills

  • Degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or equivalent
  • A high level of relevant experience in aerospace or high integrity stress analysis roles
  • Established engineering capability and someone who can anticipate problems and plan to mitigate
  • An able communicator in verbal, written and presentational forms
  • Logical problem solver who can operate effectively under stretching project constraints
  • High degree of commercial awareness with the ability to recognise and manage change, during the project cycle.
  • Relevant technical tools, i.e., FEM and CAD

Advantageous Skills      

  • Knowledge of composite materials and associated analysis methods
