Senior Research Engineer - High Voltage Aircraft Networks
 
We are working with a leading Aerospace company who are working to develop hydrogen powered aircraft design capability.
 
We are looking for a High Voltage Network Engineer who will be responsible for designing, developing and testing high voltage electrical systems for fuel cell and electric motor application in aircraft. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering, particularly in high voltage systems, and a passion for advancing zero emissions propulsion technology in the aerospace industry.
 
Responsibilities can include;
  • Design analysis and trade studies for H.V electrical systems for aerospace.
  • Develop electrical network designs to comply with aerospace standards and safety regulations.
  • Develop detailed system schematics, diagrams, and technical documentation for high voltage network configurations.
  • Work with cross-functional teams including cryogenic specialist, safety engineers, aerodynamicists, system architects, fuel cell and electric motor specialists and suppliers to integrate high voltage systems into overall aircraft design.
  • Work with test engineers to develop validation tests of high voltage systems designs.
  • Complex technical issues related to high voltage network operation.
  • Provide technical support, participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and other engineering activities to ensure the successful development of aerospace electrical systems.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to source high voltage components and equipment, ensuring quality and reliability.
 
Essential Skills:
  • B.Sc or B.Eng. Electrical Engineering or related field; M.Eng. degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on high voltage systems
  • P/LTSPICE.
  • Experience in design analysis and development of high voltage electrical systems for aerospace applications. Including wire sizing and awareness of partial discharge effects.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to high voltage systems, such as RTCA/DO-160, MIL-STD-704, and ARP4754 / 4761.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for electrical design, such as AutoCAD or Altium Designer.
  • Familiarity with simulation tools for analysis of high voltage circuits.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Experience with project management practices and tools is a plus.
 
Advantageous Skills
  • MATLAB/Simulink
  • CATIA
  • Matlab / Simulinktification and compliance experience.
  • Knowledge of fuel cells electrical power characteristics
